Michael Mullan: Blending Folk Art, Pop Art, and Playful Design

Michael Mullan is an illustrator, designer, and hand-lettering artist whose vibrant, bold style is inspired by folk art, 1960s illustration, and Pop Art. His work has appeared in editorials, advertising campaigns, and licensed products, particularly in the home décor market, where his colorful and imaginative designs bring personality and warmth to everyday items.

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Michael holds a BFA in Graphic Design and an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design. His career began as a designer for Wild Apple before he transitioned to focus on illustration full-time.

Now working from his home studio in Vermont, Michael’s creative process is infused with a love of nature and outdoor adventure. When not making art, he can often be found hiking, camping, or trail running through New England’s scenic landscapes—experiences that continue to inspire his dynamic, visually engaging artwork.
