Julia Purinton: Capturing Light and Atmosphere
Fine artist and muralist Julia Purinton draws inspiration from the contrasting landscapes of urban Washington, D.C., and a tranquil rural village in Vermont. These diverse settings fuel her evocative cityscapes and landscapes, each infused with a sense of place and atmosphere.
Working with oils, acrylics, Venetian plaster, and glaze, Julia’s artwork is renowned for its luminous glow and vintage romance—echoing the influence of artists like William Turner, John Singer Sargent, and the Brandywine River School painters. Through layers of glaze, she creates rich atmospheric moods that invite viewers into her world. Her work is showcased in galleries throughout New England.
Originally from Virginia and Pennsylvania, Julia earned a Fine Arts degree from Harvard College and continued her studies at the School of Fine Arts in New York City. She eventually made her home in New England, living first on Boston’s North Shore before settling in Vermont’s Mad River Valley.
