Cheri Blum: Embracing Beauty in Simplicity and History

Cheri Blum (1969–2003) was an artist celebrated for her ability to capture timeless beauty through simple, graceful shapes and richly textured backgrounds. Her work, inspired by the past yet reflective of modern aesthetics, evokes a sense of tranquility and elegance that resonates in both home and commercial spaces.

Cheri began her artistic journey as an illustrator and muralist, mastering techniques such as trompe l’oeil, faux painting, and decorative furniture finishes. This foundation not only shaped her signature style but also fueled her belief that art should be an integral part of everyday life. As she once said, “We should be able to surround ourselves with beautiful art in our homes and offices, not just when we visit museums and galleries.”

Until her untimely passing in November 2003, Cheri worked from her studio along the scenic Sassafras River in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay region. In her brief yet prolific career, she created more than 400 original paintings—each a testament to her belief that art should bring peace, joy, and timeless elegance into everyday life.
